We Focus on Preventative Care
Our framework rests on preventive care measures through diet and lifestyle. Our goal is for you to restore your health, revitalize your life, and keep you out of the doctor’s office! Let's work together to build a lifestyle framework that feels natural & allows you to reach your goals effortlessly.
Doctors are amazing people with big hearts and an impressive work ethic. They truly want the best for you. Unfortunately, the system that trains these amazing people does not share the same core values of heartfelt care and connection. Selling medication and surgical procedures lies at the center of the current medical system’s curriculum. Doctors receive virtually no nutrition-based education in medical school. If doctors were knowledgeable about disease prevention, 49.6% of American adults wouldn’t be pre-diabetic or diabetic.
Most nutritional research is funded by the food and pharmaceutical industries. It’s not uncommon for the results of these studies to be intentionally muddied or omitted altogether due to a conflict of interest. As a result, our ‘mainstream knowledge’ often recommends the exact opposite of what is best for us!
For example, let’s briefly explore Type 2 diabetes and information from the American Diabetes Association. If you sign up for the full 8 week Hi Energy program, we dive in much deeper and provide you with a variety of additional resources.
Diabetes is an inability for the body to control its blood sugar levels. Type 1 diabetics don’t produce insulin - the primary hormone that signals to remove glucose from the bloodstream - and therefore administer insulin to mimic what the body should produce. Type 2 diabetics have no trouble producing insulin, but their cells are insensitive to the signal that insulin is sending and thus are too slow to remove excess glucose from the bloodstream.
Almost all drugs for treating Type 2 Diabetes involve increasing the amount of insulin in the body. Picture somebody that is losing their hearing because they spent years in the front row of rock concerts. They can’t hear you talking in a normal voice because they’ve damaged their eardrums, so the solution is to shout louder at them. But a side effect of more loud noise is more damage and over time you’ll have to yell even louder.
Adding insulin to an insulin resistant body does get the message across to remove blood glucose, but soon you’ll have to scream even louder at your cells because they’ll be even more resistant. Managing Type 2 Diabetes with insulin-based drugs is a never ending downward spiral.
Meanwhile, there are plenty of research-backed success stories of people curing Type 2 Diabetes with food by choosing foods that minimize insulin spikes - similar to if you could regain hearing by only listening to quiet noises. But instead, the American Diabetes Association lists pumpkin banana muffins, oatmeal, and a sponsored french toast casserole for breakfast, all of which induce massive insulin spikes and increase reliance on medication.
Note: While a ketogenic style diet is helpful for quickly improving symptoms, it is just one piece of the puzzle in reversing Type 2 Diabetes. Switching to a strict keto diet too quickly can actually be dangerous for your brain!
Throughout our program we will walk you through the basic science of nutrients & toxins, vibrant health & common ailments so that you can learn to think critically and make your own informed choices about your health. Our goal is to put you in the driver’s seat of your well-being!
When critiquing nutritional research we rely on these main principles:
-
Humans evolved to function optimally on the food sources available before our current industrialized food system. What foods and nutrients were they thriving on?
-
Where does research funding come from, and who benefits financially from a study's results?
-
What are the biological and chemical mechanisms involved and do they support or contradict study results?
-
We have decades of personal experimentation with our own diet and lifestyle choices, including periods of high fiber, high protein, gluten free, keto, low-FODMAP, and much more. How have we felt both short and long-term using varying nutritional patterns?
Official government recommendations have resulted in the health crisis in America today. We think aiming for the average American health profile is woeful. As Dr.Casey Means MD (an American functional medicine/holistic medicine physician, entrepreneur, & author) states:
“74% of American adults now are overweight or obese. Close to 50% of children are overweight or obese. 77% of adults are unfit to serve in the military. 50% of American adults have pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes, and 30% of teens now have pre-diabetes. This is a condition no pediatrician would have seen in their lifetime 50 years ago. 1% of Americans in 1950 had Type 2 diabetes. 18% of teens have fatty liver disease, a disease that used to only be in late-stage alcoholics. Young adult cancers are up 79%, and this is the first year in American history with 2 million cancer cases. 25% of American women are on an antidepressant medication. Autism rates in kids are 1 in 36 nationally, compared to 1 in 1500 in the year 2000, and the screening has not changed. In California, it's even worse: Autism rates are 1 in 22. Infertility rates are going up 1% per year, sperm counts are going down 1% per year since the 1970s. 26% of women have polycystic ovarian syndrome.
The thing that people need to understand is that all of these conditions are caused or driven by the exact same thing, which is metabolic dysfunction. This core foundational issue of how our bodies at the cellular level function, which is driven by our toxic food system and our toxic environment."
We’ve spent 1000s of hours studying nutrition and we’ve implemented many of the concepts we’ve learned into our own daily lifestyle - some of which now make up Hi Energy's Core Principles. We continue to learn new information and adjust accordingly. There's no one size fits all 'perfect' diet, but thus far by following Hi energy's core dietary principles we've gotten outstanding results. We eat lots of salt, butter, meat, eggs, cheese, produce, & home baked goods. We don’t count calories & we don’t feel ravaged by hunger. Now in our 30s, our bodies & brains feel better than ever!
